FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION EARLY
1900's KHAKI UNIFORM GROUP. 1er R.E.I. LIEUTENANT.
All matching vintage khaki cotton uniform AND Kepi issued to a
Sous-Lieutenant of the 1st Legion Infantry regiment. Circa
1900-1930. TUNIC=4 front patch pockets
with flaps. Cuffs, button down epaulettes, long point collar.
10x vintage, frosted Legion Etrangere officers type buttons (3 different
sizes. Removable. All attach with split-rings through
hand-stitched holes). Large buttons are marked MAURICE BOURDON
PARIS (and with an anchor & a bomb). Smaller buttons are marked
with anchor or unmarked) Complete with stitched loops above left
pocket for attaching medals. 2x brass belt support hooks on the
reverse. 2x hand-stitched on rank badges on cuffs & 2x 1REI collar
patches. TROUSERS=3 pocket. Button & hook fly.
2x side adjusting tabs with rusted buckles. Triangle type belt
loops. KEPI=Soft sided & "floppy" type as per the period.
Is darker colour than uniform, discolored with age? (possibly it was
displayed more) Lined in grey material (looks to be some sort of water
resistant(?) cotton. Hessian (burlap) side "support) Supple
leather sweatband. Black patent-leather (?) visor.
Discolored gold chinstrap with 2x tarnished LE side buttons. Lieutenants
rank hand-stitched to front. Kepi appears to be tailor made & much
of it looks hand-stitched. ....... SIZE SMALL/MEDIUM...... MEASUREMENTS: (In case anyone would be crazy enough to want to wear
it!) TUNIC: Around chest=37"

TUNIC has frayed, 1" through & through hole in left cuff. 1" tear
at top of gusset on reverse. Small Stitch holes and rust stains
where clips once were for attaching shoulder patch & sleeve diamond.
TROUSERS have 1/2" through & through holes in each lower leg & 1"
hole near rear pocket. Crotch appears to have been restitched by
hand and some of the stitching is broken and loose. Crotch lining
patch torn & perished. Numerous stains & tiny discolorations spots
throughout. KEPI has staining on top and general age darkening.
Chinstrap crease. 1" of Visor stitching loose/broken at right
corner & 5mm at left corner. This is an original, vintage
set, not movie props or repro BS. Has been used and shows its age,
but being probably 100 years old.......

PARATROOPS 47/56 O.D. JACKET/SHIRT.
Original '56 Para model in dark Olive Drab HBT. Button & blackened brass metal zippered front with storm
flap. TWO upper chest pockets with snaps. (Almost no wear on
snaps) Concealed, zippered left chest pocket+internal. button tab
right chest pocket. Not uncommon in the 1970's & 1980's the bottom pockets have been
removed for wear as a shirt. (This was allowed in the Legion for
combat/overseas deployments.) Side seams, sleeves & shoulder
seams have all been taken in/tailored and machine over locked.
Elastic removed from cuffs. Both zippers are in perfect working
order. Both zipper sliders are stamped SPIDEX and both have
their original OD cotton shoelace type cord attached. V.
BIEBUYCK MERVILE & NH stamped inside below
collar. Complete with green company recognition scarf which
buttons into epaulette button & pins under arm.

Tailor/custom modified from a lizard camo
reproduction 47/56 jacket. 100% cotton? 4x
bellowed front pockets (each with 3 green painted steel snap sets) + TWO
concealed zip internal chest pockets + lower rear "poachers" type pocket
with "bronze" snaps access flaps on both sides + upper rear vent pocket
with concealed zips on either end. Stand-up collar. 3/4
front "bronze" zip with button over storm flap with black hook & loop
square at bottom. Button epaulettes. Straight, button tabs cuffs.
(changed from the 47/56 elastic type). Jacket body has been
shortened and once had elastic at the back (but now removed) Main zipper
slider is stamped AAA (1). Chest pocket & upper rear pocket
zipper sliders are all brass & stamped YKK. Internal chest
pockets are made from original East German falling rain camo cloth.
Rear pocket is made from OD cotton aertex®
type mesh material. Original button holes on cuffs are visibly
machine stitched closed. 1x spare button stitched inside.
Red, white & blue 88 size label stitched inside below collar. (711/DS13/KW

US GREY RIPSTOP POPLIN BDU type jacket. TWO zip-accessed concealed chest pockets +
4 large front patch pockets each w/3 sets of matte black, pebbled finish snaps
+ 2 upper rear
zippered vents which are also a pocket and lower rear pocket with access flaps
on either side. (styled similar to a French 47/51 para jacket). Button cuffs and epaulettes. Zip
& button front w/storm flap & bottom velcro. Pen
pocket w/flap on upper right sleeve. Smaller upper chest
pockets than original 47 jackets. Bottom pockets reinforced with black trim.
Elastic was once sewn into the lower back but has been removed. The back
is not as scrunched as it appears in the photo and there are "wrinkle"
marks in the material. Original BDU label still stiched below the collar

all troops. The Ride Safe P.R. program allowed soldiers to
safely Hitch-Hike on SA highways and gave motorists a chance to
"do their part" supporting the war effort by giving a lift
to travelling soldiers. NOTE: Printing on sash is excellent,

name, unit (1 Valskerm Bataljon) & force number hand written in
marking pen on inside. 1" glue repair at bottom.
